YOU'VE GOT MAIL : The Importance Of Starting Small

During a conversation with a very good friend of mine, I said this quote that had come to be a part of me then - that was about five years back - and I didn't know who actually quoted this quote, but I do today.
"The smallest deed is better than the greatest intention" - John Burroughs

I love this pic and that's thanks to thechangeblog.com . Hi, it's been a while though. Back to my story, some days ago I was having another conversation with the same friend and he reminded me of one of the days and conversations he'd never forget having with me, that I said the above quote. Instantly I felt guilty and happy.
Guilty that I may not have been true to what I may have preached to someone else years ago and happy that I was privileged to feature in someone's story of change and success. I imagined him on a platform addressing a crowd of captains of industry, business moguls or at an award ceremony giving his speech and mentioning my name maybe. Is that cheesy? :)

Seriously now, you could consider this for the week or the whole of your life. We all have dreams whether we think they are big or small and sometimes wish that we'd somehow wake up and find the dreams come true. The truth is, they don't come true by wishful thinking. You have to take a step no matter how little and if possible everyday. Imagine you had a dream of owning a burger company 3 years ago, you watch the news this evening and a new burger company was featured on the business news segment to have a grand breakthrough in the burger business, how would you feel? The best time to plant a tree after ten years ago is now! Or what do you think?

How To Or Not To Propose.

WARNING: Long but interesting post ahead.

It's that time of the year again, that time they call the 'Season of Love' (Sorry, I'm not a big fan). I guess this particular day records the highest number of marriage proposals every year. You know I'm talking about Valentine's day.

Last year, one of my secondary school seniors got a proposal on the radio on Val's day (The guy proposed to her on radio, just in case you don't understand) it was mushy...you know...and it worked for her, they married in December.

When you see 'I'm not a big fan' of Valentine's day, it does not mean I'm a hater (maybe just a table fan LOL), God knows I'm a romantic, I just don't show it.

Maybe one of the reasons why I'm not a big fan of Valentine is because my romantic relationships have not lasted till Valentine's yet. But seriously, the thing that makes Valentine not tick for me is that I may be expecting something if I'm in a romantic relationship and I hate expecting, because it is synonymous to extreme apprehension or (God forbid) an OCD for that thing I'm expecting.

Marriage proposal is an overwhelming experience especially for ladies, guys should not think that ladies want marriage so bad, they don't care how you ask.

We ladies are the ones who like to talk about the proposal stories. Tiwa Savage's birthday party cum proposal this week, was what got us gisting about how we like or do not like to be proposed to. The following are the views of ladies who could not resist the juicy gist that morning, just before the work started weighing.

Mjady
I would not like a proposal on a day I'm expecting surprises, like Val's day or my birthday. It won't work for me, my mind would have gone far and wide about what, how and where the surprises would come from. I'd like it innovative and unexpected, but not overboard.

Yem
I hope I get a proposal on Valentine's day, it would be so lovely. I just want to hear those words.

ML
He proposed on one of our outings, I was not expecting it. We were on a boat cruise and that was all I was excited about till we got to the middle of the ocean and the boat stopped. I was wondering whatever may have happened while he feigned trying to pick a call and bringing his phone out of his pocket. The next thing I know is, he going on one knee with a ring in his hand...*gasp*

Tomy
The first proposal I received was at the airport, I was returning from a trip. I was approaching my boyfriend who was supposed to receive me when I saw him go on one knee, I was totally embarrassed. I accepted, just to avoid embarrassing him in front of that crowd. After that day, I declined his proposal because I was not ready for marriage, but we remained friends. Years after that we were in a romantic relationship again and he proposed in a better way this time. Our marriage is almost two years old now.

Desy
Any day is special for a marriage proposal in my opinion, the guy should be creative with his 'element of surprise' and make it special for his lady.

*I wish this was a disclaimer but Mjady, is single Yem  is dating, ML is engaged, Tomy and Desy are married.

Now it's your turn to share your thots.

SOS!

Is there a book like "blogging for dummies"?!
Cause I'm almost freaking out here!!. Sorry! Okay! Maybe I should watch my tongue. I'm not freaking out but since I started this blog and I had 3 members, it has remained like that for months. It's annoying that it seems like I don't understand the rudiments of social networking b/c I can't seem to draw attention on facebook, twitter or this blog. What am I doing wrong? what am I to do more rightly? I'm not jealous but the blogs I follow have a lot of followers and no one is complaining about any difficulties in joining those blogs. This isn't a pity party, it's SOS now! Please join this blog and post comments on what would help, wld be grateful. Thanks.

To trust and to hold

"I can't believe those words just dropped out of her mouth!"
"What does she take me for?!"
"This is someone I should be able to rely on and talk to, she does not even  trust me nor knows what I'm capable of. It's sad."

Sometimes we get dashed by the people we've been a little bit or very vulnerable with and had our courage thrown right back into our faces. We feel betrayed, less secure, sold to the enemy, bitter and disappointed.

Trust is not easily gained but it is easily lost. Trust is innate yet learned. Trust is an interactive trait, it has a two way direction.

I wish I could tell you why I'm talking bout trust, but I know to gain trust is a joyful priviledge, while to give trust is a risk. Life is being made beautiful and our experiences meaningful by the mixture of the bitter and sweet.

And what convinces us that we are worthy of our trusts ourselves?

We betray ourselves, sell ourselves to our detriment, do things we would not normally do and give our trusts to other people not worthy. Most times we are not any better than the ones who betray us.

May not really know the drive for this, but I think some points to brood on about trust have been laid. I'm not leading anyone to a particular perspective or philosophy of trust, I'm just expressing the thoughts flowing through my head now. I draw the curtains with this;

We may not have control over the trust we give,
But we do have a responsibility to guard the trust we do receive.

I see me as He sees me

Was chatting this morning with roomie as we went through her pictures together. She mentioned someting about trying to be a tomboy at a point because she felt she was not pretty (you need to see her eyes). I found some similarity between the both of us cos I went through the same thing. Early teenage years were hard on me and self-esteem. I changed school and retreated to a very introverted shell, hid my potentials, was secretive (though others could share with me), I was never really convinced that I was beautiful cos I wasn't treated favourably, wasn't really in vogue, classmates made fun of me, my peers didn't really roll with me cos I wasn't a big girl, no boy openly admitted that he liked me and so on. I had a handful, you can say that again.
But here am I today *singing* 'So I'm over it noooow, over it now, I can't say how but I'm over it.' But I think I can say how. It was God's immeasurable love for me that transformed the way I see myself. I now see myself the way He sees me. And I've decided to stick with his view because it's not a make believe but the truth cos he created me and was pleased with what He did. Now, I walk with my head high, dress and appear with confidence, and can say "I'm fly"
